"My friend, the pianist Roksana Smirnova, sent me a piano part a few months ago and said that she just sat down at the instrument and played it from the first take as it was, after watching the heavy news from her native Ukraine again. This is the kind of pain that is sometimes indescribable in words, only in music.
I liked the melody of the chorus right away, but I couldn't come up with the right lyrics for it and the verses didn't come out right. Although I'm usually a fast writer.
After a month of trying, I almost gave up. Although I knew inside that it was going to be a great song.
It all worked out only when I flew to Ukraine for 5 days, back home. On the way back, we stood for 4 hours at the Polish border because of the Scholz, Macron, and Draghi train.

First of all, I finally breathed in the Ukrainian air, which I missed so much. I walked around my native land, saw my own people... Pure tears rolled down my cheeks, a certain calmness and 100% confidence in our victory came to my heart. I immediately realized what the song should be about, what question many Ukrainians are concerned about now: "How to survive everything that has fallen to our lot and will we ever be happy again..." A painful question when you have lost not only your home, your job, but also your relatives in the war...
Secondly, at the border, because of the wait, I finally had 4 hours to myself, and the poems poured out of me and the melody of the verses as well.
The weather was sunny, calm, silence in which you can hear every word from the sky: "And we will be happy again, building a path, and we will be happy again with gratitude in our hearts..."
